It is our goal to seek out areas and programs that are being missed or under-funded. We strive to make a difference and each program is researched to ensure a low operating expense as well as a direct benefit for those in need. The Association for Retarded Citizens - We are proud to have sponsored dances for this worthwhile organization. Challenged adults are provided transportation, a 'live DJ' for entertainment, and refreshments. This monthly dance event is attended by ARC members from a three county area. The Bridge Shelter is a home for teens - When parents are arrested younger children are transported to social services and placed in foster care. Many foster homes do not take older children and the Bridge Shelter offers an alternative to over-crowded understaffed state facilities. The Bridge Shelter accepts all ages of older children and the teens receive counseling as well as schooling and any medical needs they may have. NCF has provided funds on a yearly basis to continue to upgrade the furnishings in the home so that an already difficult situation is lessoned through pleasant and safe surroundings. Loudon Interfaith Relief Inc. - Is a food bank in the Washington DC area. This organization provides emergency food rations for a three day period and serves the homeless, nearly homeless, and impoverished individuals and families in the area. They provide a counseling service to help families better manage their means so that 'running out of food' is not a regular occurrence. Operation Shoebox - This was a great project taken on by our Director Leslie Warfield and NATCA volunteers in the DC area. They purchased a variety of items, packed them in shoeboxes, and shipped them to a contact in Iraq to show our support for our enlisted men. Items included candy, toiletries, cameras, stationery, pens, and other such necessities that become scarce in a war zone. Women's Haven - This is an organization that NCF has been helping since our inception. This home shelters abused women and children and provide the a safe haven in addition to counseling, education, and attending to their medical needs. The NATCA Charitable Foundation seeks out areas that have been missed by other donations. From new towels, sheets, and pillows to a truck load of undergarments and robes for the residents, we continue to help those less fortunate. This year we furnished four apartments with all the necessities for the Women's Haven "Life Client Program". This program is for qualifying women who have taken steps to rid violence from their family life. The Haven provides a furnished apartment for up to two years while continuing to provide counseling and support. NCF helped by donating all the 'extras' needed - from linens to dishes to cleaning supplies... two trucks full of goodies brought tears to the eyes of the volunteers at the facility. This page is still being updated with our program descriptions - thank you for your patience! |
